Yoga Wall®

Private Yoga Meredith Musick
The original “yoga wall” design was a system of knotted ropes and anchors, fastened to a wall, used primarily in Iyengar yoga studios. Named after its originator, BKS Iyengar, this form of practice is renowned for its emphasis on detailed alignment and mastery over even the most subtle movements. It is regarded as among the most therapeutic yoga practices ever developed and many teachers from other systems of practice study this method, with its emphasis on anatomic and kinesthetic accuracy, to deepen their own practice.

The Yoga Wall® system allows for an incredible range of adaptation to accommodate any body of any ability, and support nearly any pose.

The benefits of using this system include:

Support: while a student is learning yoga poses, the yoga wall can help by supporting the student while they learn how to rotate, balance, lengthen, twist, bend, straighten, etc. Simulating proper form and alignment is a great first step in actually achieving these postures yourself.

Traction: reverse the age of your spine! By using this powerful series, your spine will be more fluid and hydrated, and can actually reverse the effects of compression and gravity. This tool can be used for all levels and ages, just like any other sensible and supported yoga practice.

The Yoga Wall® provides a rare opportunity to work out by changing one’s orientation to gravity. By using the adjustable straps in varying poses, the wall allows us to access deep core muscles, rather than relying on superficial skeletal muscles for movement. It provides unparalleled opportunity for traction of the entire spine and hips.

It allows people with neck and spine injuries to safely invert, receiving the benefits of spinal traction and improved circulation, with very low risk of aggravating a pre-existing condition.
For more advanced practitioners, the wall allows a much more thorough and deep access to core muscles, providing a fun, challenging and energizing workout that challenges the laws of gravity in ways that any form of practice can benefit from.

Yoga walls can transform the practice of every yogi, from beginner to master!

In this unique practice, gravity can be appreciated and utilized as a natural form of resistance, which:

✓ builds strength in both the large and small muscle groups
✓ aides in the ability to access various muscle groups in poses they are not yet able to achieve on the mat
✓ offers many therapeutic benefits helping individuals heal from athletic injuries, arthritis, degenerative disc disease, and Sciatica
✓ can help students work through fear, build confidence, etc, so that they are able to take what they’ve learned on the Great Yoga Wall, to their mats and into their daily lives
✓ uses specific postures and positioning, movement and breath, awareness to open the joints, connective tissue
✓ allows standing postures, forward and back bends, twists and inversions
✓ helps us feel great after doing yoga, because it is a balanced physical practice designed to open the spine in every direction
